Flexibility Positions Me: Yielding to the Potter and Expanding for the New Wine

Whenever the Lord arrests my spirit with one word, I know heaven is calling for an immediate shift. First, He commanded us to examine the JOURNEY—to understand that every step, every pause, and every transition is ordered by God. Now, the word that has been reverberating in my heart for days is FLEXIBILITY.
Listen to me: we all love certainty. We love mapped-out calendars, predictable routines, and airtight plans. But what do you do when God steps in and interrupts the agenda? What do you do when the road takes an unexpected detour, or an unexpected halt forces you out of your comfort zone?
Too many of us mistake stubborn control for spiritual strength. We think being rigid is the same as standing firm. But in the natural, when hurricane winds blow through a forest, the stiff oak snaps right in half, while the palm tree bends low to the ground—and when the storm clears, that palm is still standing tall.
In the kingdom of God, flexibility is not compromise, confusion, or weakness. Flexibility is a holy superpower. It is the sacred posture of an aligned, yielded vessel that says: "Lord, not my will, but Yours be done. Position me as You see fit."
The Hebrew & Greek Foundations of Flexibility
To understand why flexibility is a prerequisite for your next dimension, we have to see how heaven defines it:
Pliable Clay (Yatsar): In Jeremiah 18, the Hebrew word for the potter shaping clay is yatsar—to mold, fashion, and frame. Clay can only receive the potter's imprint while it remains moist and pliable. The moment it hardens into stiffness, it cannot be reformed; it can only be broken down.
Elastic Capacity (Askos): In Matthew 9:17, Jesus speaks of wineskins (askos). Ancient wineskins were made of animal hide that had to be regularly treated with oil. As fresh wine fermented, it released gases that expanded the leather. A supple, flexible wineskin stretched under the internal pressure; a dry, brittle wineskin cracked, bursting wide open and spilling the wine.
The Grace to Enlarge (Har’chiv): Isaiah 54:2 commands us to stretch our tent curtains wide and lengthen our cords. Expansion demands elasticity. If your spirit refuses to be stretched, you limit the very territory God wants to pour into your life.
1. The Mystery of the Wheel (Jeremiah 18:3–4)
"So I went down to the potter’s house, and I saw him working at the wheel. But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him." — Jeremiah 18:3–4
Notice what happened when a defect appeared in the clay: the potter didn’t throw it onto the trash heap. He pressed it back down onto the wheel and reworked it because it was still soft in his hands.
You may find yourself in an unexpected season where you feel pressed down. A project didn’t go as planned, a door shut in your face, or an unexpected circumstance forced you to stop running. The enemy will immediately whisper that you failed, that you're disqualified, or that the vision is ruined.
Hear the word of the Lord tonight: You are not discarded; you are simply on the wheel!
Don’t let your heart dry out into bitterness, frustration, or offense. Stay moist in prayer. Stay soaked in worship. As long as you remain yielded, the Master Potter will take every flaw, every disruption, and every unexpected delay and reshape you into a vessel of greater honor.
2. The New Wineskin Mandate (Matthew 9:17)
"Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved." — Matthew 9:17
We love to pray for fresh glory, fresh power, and fresh anointing. We cry out, "Lord, pour out Your new wine!" But God is asking us: Do you have the skin to hold it?
You cannot steward a fresh move of God with old, stiff mindsets, obsolete methods, and rigid expectations. New wine creates internal pressure. It requires room to ferment and expand. If your spirit cannot stretch, the very breakthrough you fasted and prayed for will burst your capacity.
Spiritual flexibility means allowing the Holy Ghost to oil your heart so that when heaven releases sudden increase, your spiritual cords expand without snapping under the weight of the glory.
3. Yielding for Heaven’s Reroute (Acts 16:6–10)
In Acts chapter 16, the Apostle Paul and his apostolic team had clear plans to preach in Asia and Bithynia. Yet scripture reveals that the Holy Spirit explicitly stopped them.
Paul didn’t argue with God. He didn’t get an attitude, throw in the towel, or demand his own way. He remained agile in the Spirit. Because he stayed flexible, God gave him a night vision of the Macedonian man crying out, "Come over and help us!" That one divine interruption opened the doorway for the gospel to penetrate Europe and transform nations.
When heaven puts up a roadblock, it is never a denial—it is divine protection and strategic repositioning. When you hold your plans with an open hand, you give God permission to interrupt your good ideas so He can install His eternal blueprint.

A Prophetic Decree of Surrender & Positioning
Today, take your hands off the steering wheel. Release your tight grip on how you thought things had to happen, and declare that you are fully yielded to the Potter’s touch.
Lift your hands and declare this with me:
"Father, we bless You. You are the Potter and we are the clay. Forgive us for every moment we became stiff-necked, resistant, or anchored to our own timelines. Today, we invite the Holy Spirit to soften our hearts. Pour fresh oil over our spiritual wineskins! Grant us the divine grace to bend without breaking, to stretch without tearing, and to yield to every sovereign shift of Your Spirit. We lay down our agendas and take hold of Your blueprint. Reshape us, expand our capacity, and position us for the new wine of Your glory. In Jesus' mighty and matchless name, Amen!"
